Yuji and Mazi's past
Asako is a CIRS operative and the one who rescued young Yuji from a terrorist organization. This story follows the main storyline of their interactions and recollections, showing how Yuji is influenced by her. The experiences of Asako and Yuji here are an extension of the past arc of "Labyrinth."
Distinguishing it from other short stories
Another supplement in the series, 'Gray Has Leisure' focuses more on the comedic daily life of Mihama Academy, while 'Afterglow' uses a more serious narrative of memories. The publisher clearly reminds readers that this article will reveal important content of "The Grey Labyrinth," making it suitable to continue after finishing the series.
Original compilation and individual release
The game was initially included with the first editions of the Blu-ray and DVD volume 5 of the "Grey Paradise" anime, and later an English PC version was released. Steam lists July 19, 2016, as the English standalone release date, so it cannot be used as the earliest release date for the story.
Supplement life between past chapters
"Labyrinth" looks back on Yuji's experiences from childhood to before he started school, while "Remnant Light" focuses on their shared life after Mazi rescues him. "Melody" clearly continues the subsequent tasks from the official handover of 9029.
Mentor-Apprentice Inheritance and Military Companions (Game Chapter · Spoilers)
"Afterglow" recounts Danny's whereabouts and traces the master-apprentice relationship back to the previous generation: Yamamoto was Asako's master, who later became Yuji's master.
