Notes and trains
A series of suicides occurred at a certain station, and rumors spread that a strong wish could become a ticket to the far side of the dream. The protagonist arrives here with a note, but the surroundings gradually lose their sound and color, and they are then pushed onto the train. The notes and unfamiliar sights left with him became the only clues at the start of the exploration.
Companions and mysterious visitors
Companions always follow the protagonist, participating in battles and giving hints during dialogue. The mysterious man appeared from time to time and asked questions, but showed no clear hostility. The lone keymaster can craft or exchange equipment, sometimes leaving clues, but the protagonist cannot always find him on his own.
Two types of collection with different purposes
The funeral home purifies and buries the grave debris, collects masks to call upon the Lord, and also provides tickets and advice to the protagonist. The MAG group also focuses on the trash, but their goal is to gather their creators, trying to stop Henbane from destroying the world. Under similar targets, the approaches and objectives of both sides differ.
First-person exploration
The scene uses a first-person perspective, allowing players to move using direction and refer to the map. You can check the status of the menu and also chat with peers. Companion cues coordinate observation with understanding paths; not all progress is driven by combat.
Turn-based combat
Combat provides normal attacks, special attacks, and defense. The interface uses diamonds to indicate both sides' health status, and team composition changes the special actions that can be used. Different partners take on roles such as attribute attacks, analysis, or healing, and equipment can be adjusted by the keymaster.
Ending conditions
The official announcement divides the final endings into three categories: normal endings, Shiroi Otoko-related endings, and BAD endings, excluding deaths during the process. The outcome is influenced both by evaluation and by specific event conditions; The Black Mask changes part of the ending, but does not form a separate Category IV ending.
Games and prequel novels
The game was released on May 17, 2013. DONZU also wrote a novel of the same name, telling the story before the game. The print edition was published by KADOKAWA on November 29, 2014, totaling 304 pages; The digital edition was released on January 9, 2015, with both the author and illustrator credited to DONZU.
