In 2006, after more than twenty years of post-disaster lockdown, Hinamizawa was lifted. Arakawa and fellow contributors entered the village to gather information, discovered a dead person inside a car in the rain, and tried to seek police help.
DS 'Kizuna' Volume 3: Internal conflict between the assembly hall and the Sonozaki group
DS Volume 3 of "Kizuna" "Snail" was released on May 28, 2009. The 'Yogoshi Chapter' describes a night twenty-three years after the great disaster at Hinamizawa.
After Arakawa and Sorimachi discovered the dead inside the car, they were stranded in the village because neither their cell phone nor the community center phone could be reached. They encounter Otobe, Yae, and a woman who calls herself Mion at the assembly hall. Yae's boyfriend and the group's vehicle then disappeared, and the way to leave the village was cut off.
Armed men surrounding the gathering place hunted down Mion, and others were also caught up as her companions. The conflict stems from internal strife following the death of the Sonozaki gang leader: Mion is on this trip to retrieve the sword and scroll needed to inherit the boss's position, while Sorimachi is investigating an attempted assassination. Everyone helps each other and escapes danger after contacting the police.
