Editing and collaborating on novel illustrations
In a March 2011 interview with 'Hidan no Aria,' Kobuichi explained that when he first drew Kinji, he was criticized for having an overly high character ratio, so he repeatedly adjusted the head-to-body ratio. When drawing Reki, the method of drawing the eyes was changed so that readers could recognize the character just by looking at the face in black-and-white images, and tried to preserve subtle expressions on nearly expressionless faces.
In the same interview, Akamatsu Middle School recalled the scene in the first volume of the novel where Aria stopped and cried in Shinjuku, but the manuscript did not describe the weather. Kobuichi's illustrations include rain scenes, which Akamatsu thought better conveyed sadness, so he included rain in the novel's main text.
