Before drafting, decide on the color tone
In a 2015 interview, Ryo Ueda put color before drafting: first determine the color tone for the entire painting, then proceed to the draft. He hopes to present the atmosphere of the world of his works through color and coloring.
Painter watercolor accidental mixing
He recalled that when illustrating the novel 'Sayonara Piano Sonata' in 2007, he deeply used Painter to express a refreshing world. Colors accidentally formed during watercolor layering became part of his exploration of a transparent style.
Division of labor between line art and coloring equipment and software
In 2015, he used digital screens to sketch rough sketches and line art, and used a digital panel for coloring, so his hands wouldn't block the image, making it easier to view colors objectively. The software is also divided: CLIP handles line art, Photoshop handles rough sketches and basic colors, and Painter handles highlight colors.
Early coloring and independent manuscript acceptance
Ryo Ueda recalled during a 2015 interview that during middle school, he was influenced by Nobuteru Yuuki's illustrations and began practicing coloring seriously. Initially, advertising pigments were used, but later Liquitex acrylic paints were switched; After working with different artists, he gradually shifted from character copying to fully illustrating his own illustrations.
After graduating from university, Ryo Ueda first worked in image production at a game company. A few years later, he proactively applied for illustration submissions from magazines and was hired by G's Magazine, where he was responsible for illustrations and character illustrations. After leaving the company, he first assisted the magazine's illustrators in their work, gradually building up his track record and eventually landing a console game concept work as a key artist.
