Between two eras

The series envisions the existence of a tengu autonomous state within Japan, each with its own culture and system. Early works depicted tengu society at the end of the twentieth century, while this work shifts to a human town in the twenty-first century. The experiences of the characters from the previous work and their next generation connect two periods through the same historical change. Tengu is not only a source of mysterious power, but also faces changes in identity and living environment.

A series of ghost stories in the castle town

Around Haruta and Yukiko, many strange events have circulated: a girl appearing on a rooftop at night, fox fires in the shrine, mountain paths that swallow pedestrians, and a hidden shrine fifty years ago. The two start their investigation based on local rumors, gradually converging the seemingly scattered events. The campus and small town daily carry the relationships between characters, while the mysteries bring them into contact with stories that locals are reluctant to reveal.

Teenagers and Intimate Relationships

Haruta appears easygoing but struggles to take on the responsibilities that come with long-term relationships. In a post-publication article, the author interprets his experience as a process of relearning the role of family: the loss of childhood affected his confidence in being close to others, and his interactions with Yukiko, Hozuki, and Inokai gave him a chance to change. This is the author's post-production interpretation and should not be equated with the clear answers given by the characters in the play.

Previous works and independent reading

The official explanation states that this game does not require playing the first two games first; Existing readers can recognize the connection between world changes and old characters. While the previous installment focused on travel, learning, and social relationships within Tengu's territory, this installment shifts the focus to human living areas, where the difficulty of understanding humans and tengu changes with the times.

Demo version versus full version

The 2017 demo version included the first three types of ghost stories, with the chapter from fifty years ago remaining in the official release. The official website separately distinguishes between downloadable versions, standard physical editions, and first press physical editions: the download version only includes the game and does not include the original music collection from the first press edition.
