Layered line art and light color adjustment
Masayo explained that when drawing line art, she layers the hair, face, and body to make it easier to adjust the proportions later. Masayo often synchronizes line art and color separation, observing the balance of the painting during drawing; When coloring, start with skin treatment to capture the overall impression the character conveys.
During the finishing touch, Masayo moves or distorts facial details, adjusts the tone, and automatically pulls the line color closer to the base color, allowing the outline to blend with the coloring. Lighting is handled according to the direction of the light source: warm colors in bright areas, cool colors in dark areas, and a slight blue to enhance the sense of foreground.
Eye shapes and lighting treatment in game commissions
Masayo recalled that when designing characters for 'Kirakira Monsters,' she requested that her eye shape be even more prominent. Masayo originally drew round eyes, but after repeated work, she gradually incorporated this eye shape into her own style; Creating three-dimensional effects based on lighting sources is also something I practiced mastering during this game project.
