Between sisters

Keiichi sees 'Mion' in a waitress uniform and behaving differently at a family restaurant. The other party claims to be Mion's sister, Shion, which at first makes Keiichi suspect this is just another version of Mion's disguise. The twins' similar appearances and different ways of treating others are the persistent information gaps used in this article.

The night flows endlessly

During the festival, Keiichi was invited to sneak into the altar hall of Furude Shrine, violating local taboos. The relaxed club activities thus became linked to the mischief of the shrine gods and the successive village incidents, gradually placing the Sonozaki family at the center of suspicion.

Daily setup

English editor Tyabann pointed out in a retrospective that the original story spent considerable length establishing the sisters' misidentification and then revealing that Shion did exist. This treatment of name, appearance, and identity makes early everyday conversations clues for subsequent reading.

Chapters and editions

The fifth part, 'Mekei Chapter,' traces related events from the later added Shion perspective and involves Satoru Hojo. MangaGamer's Hou English Chapter 2 was re-released on November 13, 2015; It was not released on the same day as the 2002 Japanese original.

Included in 'Cui'

This story is included in PS3/Vita's Higurashi When They Cry and is part of its nineteen-story collection, offering full voice and cross-platform archives.

The story of the latest version begins

Keiichi meets a girl at a family restaurant that is different from his usual impression, and on the night of the festival, he is invited to enter the Furude Shrine's ritual implements. Doubts about the sisters' identities intertwined with village taboos.

A thank-you ceremony during the Menryu Festival

The Menryu Festival is held every June. Reina told Keiichi that the ritual took cotton from the old bedding, expressed gratitude to the items that had accompanied her for a long time, and then placed the cotton into the river. Cotton that touches the forehead, chest, abdomen, or knees should be carried away with the water and not taken home.

Reliance on the phone and fear

When Keiichi's anxiety deepened, he once regarded the phone signed Shion as a channel for communication. The anomaly in the call subsequently shakes this dependence. The second half continues with Keiichi's own experiences, and the interruption of consciousness at a critical moment prevents him from confirming everything that happened with his own eyes.

Dismemberment and dental records

Komiyama visits the Okumiya Dental Hospital, finds records of wisdom tooth extraction by Takano Sanshi three years ago, and reports to Oishi. The police compared dental records and determined that Yamanaka's burned body belonged to Takano; Oishi and Kumagai also discussed the fact that the body was not bound, and subsequent reports suggested the victim was strangled first and then cremated.

The timing of the Houye Festival is contradictory

In the final stages, Keiichi is stabbed by a girl he mistakes for Mion. However, the police report from After the Night Festival stated that Shion fell from the apartment, and the presumed time of death was 2 a.m. on June 28, 1983, coinciding with the time of Keiichi's attack. Takano's presumed death date was also earlier than when Keiichi saw her on festival night; Oishi explained these inconsistent records to Keiichi, who was hospitalized.
