The wish of the cosmic burial
Disaster has turned towns into ruins, yet those left behind can still hear the whispers of souls. The Technician and the Witch hope that through cosmic burial, the victims can return to the galaxy, regarded as the starting point and home of life. Building rockets thus became both a practical project and connected to their memories of the past and their own past.
Snowfield exploration and crafting
Players traverse snowy wildernesses, ruined cities, and religious facilities to gather materials needed for rockets. Rugged terrain and unexpected situations can hinder movement, so you'll need to craft snow boots, searchlights, tents, and other exploration tools. Material searching, equipment preparation, and rocket assembly are interconnected, and advancing engineering means going farther.
Stories in the ruins
As exploration deepens and the rocket gradually completes, the characters' memories and experiences during disasters are supplemented. Scenes use snowfall, day and night, and changes in light and shadow to depict a desolate environment. The official introduction lists over thirty original pieces of music and arranges dedicated sound effects for each scene. The work belongs to the "OPUS" series, continuing the approach of expressing characters through adventurous approaches.
The skills and faith of the two survivors
John, a descendant of rocket engineers, collaborates with the witch Lin Fang to prepare for the cosmic burial. Lin Fang awakened from hibernation decades ago and gained the ability to repair rockets; The two visit blasted industrial zones, religious altars, and quarantine cities, collect materials, and listen to the wishes left behind by ghosts. The story takes place after the post-apocalyptic plague, with over 100 collectibles in exploration that carry each story.
Lin Fang's independent prequel
The free prequel "Bridge of Souls Prequel: Reminiscence" begins with Lin Fang waking up in the church cellar, tracing her apocalyptic journey through equipment operation and exploration of the damaged corridor. The prequel soundtrack is credited to Triodust, Hsu, and Chia-Wei, while the original original sound is credited to Triodust.
Platform release order
The mobile version was released on September 14, 2017, the Windows/Mac version on February 8, 2018, and the Switch version on March 22, 2018. A free prequel was also released on September 12, 2018.
Disagreements and companionship after repeated failures
Lin Fang regarded completing the cosmic burial as a promise with everyone, and John initially helped her more for personal reasons. After repeated failures, the Rockets' willingness waned and he refused to continue assisting; Lin Fang went out alone to look for materials and disappeared, and he regretted going to look for them again. In the blizzard, Lin Fang turns around and saves John. The two support each other to the church and begin to acknowledge the meaning of companionship. The ending even connects their relationship back to the promise they made in childhood.
Explore routes and narrative arrangements
Each material search route is specially arranged. The production team used a mesh map to record the regions passed through and overlapped by the main and side lines, unifying the sequence of events, map changes, music, and sound effects; Changes in John's motivation also affect the mood that advances the exploration mission.
Adapting the novel
Sharp Point Publishing collaborated with SIGONO on OPUS Bridge of the Soul - Galaxy in the Ruins, published on August 5, 2021, with 360 pages in total. Moon Bear took up the pen, Heavenly Fire drew the cover, and Parrot Island drew a dozen new interior page illustrations. Li Siyi discussed revising and adding original plot points with Moon Bear.
Original soundtrack production and the ending of the vocal version
The original soundtrack was composed, performed, produced, and mixed by Triodust. Ending Theme: 21 grams ft. Fei Lin is listed as the 42nd track on the album, performed by Cikado with lyrics by Triodust; Mortician of the End is included as a bonus. Bandcamp separately listed Hsu and Chia-Wei for mastering, and Shun-Hui Kao for record art. The Steam Original Soundtrack re-recorded the game's music and improved sound quality, including previously cut audio sources due to game size.
