Alice Edition

Eimi Okamura is a second-year high school student who lived with her grandmother from a young age and was brought back by her mother at the age of thirteen. Years of family trauma ultimately led to the tragedy of her mother's death. In despair, she meets Mariko Uemiya, who has run away from home, and the two form a friendship.

Cage Edition

The latter part unfolds from Naoto Adachi's perspective. He was physically weak and often missed classes, and when he entered his second year of high school, he was attracted to a transfer student surnamed Zhonglin. Takashi Mitsugi and Jun Takano have been friends he has known since kindergarten and have kept in touch to this day; The past of losing his childhood sweetheart still affects his life.

Sequence and presentation of chapters

After Alice finishes, Cage is unlocked; the second part follows the story after the first, and both are linear novels with no options. The visuals make extensive use of photographs, with passages that convey the situation solely through images and sound. The author's works page lists the two articles as about 192 and 173 manuscript sheets, with an estimated total reading time of about three and a half hours.

Creation and distribution

In his 2014 retrospective, Yusuke Kozumiya said the creative inspiration came from encountering a girl dressed in Lolita clothing, whose expression in the face of those around her left a vivid impression. During production, he focused on how visual novels could express content beyond the written novel.

The author clearly distinguishes Alice in 2008 and Cage in 2009. The Vector version 1.21 document was released on July 3, 2014. The author also published other written and digital novels under the title of the pseudo-book [Kazunomiya Kitan].
