Founded and planned with the original D.C. Project

In a 2019 interview, tororo recalled that he independently founded CIRCUS on November 11, 1999. For the original "D.C.," he first proposed the framework, then the staff co-organized the content, and from the framework stage, the manga and TV anime were considered.

Identifying image and maintaining continuous supply

The original D.C. maintained its visual identity with blue skies, oceans, and pink cherry blossoms. In-store promotions continue supply batches and adjust packaging or special offers, maintaining display and purchase opportunities.

The reduction of the D.C. event plan

tororo used the CIRCUS nationwide store campaign to build player communities across the country and required staff to interact with visitors. The original concept was to recreate classrooms with uniformed performers accompanying players to experience the work, but due to its large scale, it was ultimately reduced to a Q&A and game tournament with performers.

The route structure in the anime adaptation

Tororo, recalling the adaptations of "D.C." and "D.C.II," said the animation adopts an objective perspective, thus placing greater emphasis on dramatic expression; The team then discussed the balance of the central female character route and the appearance of other female characters.

Production of D.C.II P.S

In his production diary on May 23, 2008, Tomoriharu Ameno explained that before writing the Aisia route for D.C.II P.S., he rewatched the previous anime and manga and reimagined the similar but not exactly identical stories in the game world. Compared to writing the main text, organizing a large amount of settings and timelines is even more exhausting.

Hosshii, who was responsible for script and direction, wrote in her diary entry on May 9, 2008, that the group character art required first selecting expressions and poses suitable for the scene, then carefully considering the characters' positions, depth, and chronology, and repeatedly inputting instructions for each photo. When there are many players on screen, a single scene can be displayed and switched over a hundred times; Even the display position of the glasses needs to be finely adjusted.

Komoken, who was in charge of production progress, reviewed on April 18, 2008, that the CIRCUS game recording scripts were produced in-house. After the PS2 version expanded the script, voice lines, and characters, the script increased accordingly, eventually filling twenty boxes.

Mahiru Takanashi in D.C.II P.S. was responsible for the original artwork by Tatsuha. On May 23, 2008, Liyu reflected that this was her first time creating original character illustrations; Previously, he mainly participated in game development as a graphic artist.

Determined the direction of the remake with Bushiroad

In an interview published in September 2025 with D.C. Re:tune, CIRCUS director Lin recalled that the company had considered remastering or re-issuing in HD, but found it difficult to decide which type of player to target. After receiving Bushiroad's invitation and repeatedly discussing new characters, design, and voice updates, he gradually set his direction to target current players and those new to the series.

Remake character illustrations and audio recordings

The design of D.C. Re:tune retained character identification features while updating the art style, with Tahanara Natsuki and Takano Yuki responding to this request. Lin temporarily set aside the original voice and reconsidered the voice selection based on the design and personality of this work; During recording, he asked the actors to perform according to the characters from the film, without imitating the original.

Remake of characters and script adjustments

When Feng Qi was developing D.C. Re:tune, the team considered using it to solve mysteries from the old series, but later abandoned the direct puzzle-solving approach due to a different axis for the remake. Yoriko was originally the hidden female lead, but considering that years of anime and media had already made her known to players, the producers revealed her as the main female lead in the remake promotion.

"D.C. Re:tune" expanded on the previously shorter Mako route, making the story closer to the other female protagonists and re-depicting Moe's relationships as an older sister, family, and senior Junichi. The changes made by the two also affect the scenes where they do not appear, so the producers review these scenes together to avoid conflicts between character relationships and the plot.

Explanations of cultural terms in dictionaries

When developing D.C. Re:tune, the team added a dictionary feature, registering Japanese cultural terms like Momotaro and explaining their meanings in the corresponding language, allowing overseas players to access them in-game.
